In a heartfelt message posted on the Gary Sinise Foundation website, the “CSI: NY” star paid tribute to his late son’s courageous cancer fight. Sinise revealed Mac had been diagnosed in 2018 with chordoma, a form of bone cancer with no cure. Over five years, Mac underwent multiple surgeries and treatment, eventually being left paralyzed from the chest down.

Sinise described his son as an artistic soul who found solace in music during his illness. Mac taught himself to play harmonica and recorded a full album titled “Resurrection and Revival” shortly before he died. His story echoes the perseverance of the soldier in the film “1917,” Sinise wrote, getting knocked down again and again by bombs yet rising to run forward.

The grieving father expressed that losing a child is profoundly difficult for any parent. Yet Mac’s grace and optimism under such adversity remain an inspiration. Sinise also praised his son’s devoted caregivers and the love of Mac’s mother Moira, sisters, extended family and friends during his final years.

Sinise hopes sharing his family’s private loss might help others feeling similar grief. Mac leaves a legacy of courage and creativity. In Sinise’s words: “You did it. Resurrection & Revival will live on. And so will you. In our hearts forever.”
